Here in United States, we are in the midst of a presidential election and politics is at its all-time high.  Yes, politics.  But not public service.  What would it be like if those running for office would change their focus to serving others, instead of vying for position and constant power struggles.  Now, not everyone who is in politics is like this, but sadly public servants are a rarity.  A recent poll shows that many Americans desire to make a difference in their communities, but 2-1 say that the best way to do that is through volunteer organizations and charities, not through politics.  Often I am reminded of Jesus’ words:  “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.  But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,  and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:42-45, NLT)  I take these words very seriously— as followers of Christ and as Christian leaders, we should be different!  So take a moment and take this servant leadership assessment and honestly reflect on what kind of leader you are and what kind of leader Christ has called you to be.  And then purpose to live your life making a difference serving others for the glory of God alone!

  • Do I find myself often using my title or accomplishments to get what I want?
  • Am I a good listener or am I already thinking about my response while the person is still talking?
  • Do I receive the input of others without becoming defensive?
  • How often do I use the words, “I, me, or mine”?
  • If someone else receives the credit for something I did, or my name was overlooked, what is my response?
  • Do I do just what I am asked, or do I look to go beyond “the call of duty”, seeing what else needs to be done and do it?
  • If I made a mistake, am I quick to take responsibility or do I shift the blame, or seek to cover it up?
  • Do people feel free to approach me?
  • Do I use people to accomplish my goals, or do I take interest in and value the goals of people?
  • How much time do I take on a weekly basis to invest in someone else, and help them grow as a leader?
  • In everything I do, is my focus the glory of God or my own glory?

¿Lo Que Sucedió a Los Servidores Públicos?

Aquí en Estados Unidos, estamos en medio de una elección presidencial y la política está en todos sus limites. Sí, la política. Pero no de servicio público. ¿Cómo sería como si aquellos que corren para la política cambiaran su enfoque para servir a los demás, en ves de competir por la posición y poder?   Ahora, no todos los políticas son así, pero tristamente los servidores públicos son muy pocos. Una encuesta reciente muestra que muchos estadounidenses deseo de hacer una diferencia en sus comunidades, pero 2-1 dicen que la mejor manera de hacerlo es a través de las organizaciones de voluntarios y las organizaciones benéficas, no a través de la política. A menudo me acuerdo de las palabras de Jesús: “Como ustedes saben, los que se consideran jefes de las naciones oprimen a los súbditos, y los altos oficiales abusan de su autoridad.  Pero entre ustedes no debe ser así. Al contrario, el que quiera hacerse grande entre ustedes deberá ser su servidor,   y el que quiera ser el primero deberá ser esclavo de todos.  Porque ni aun el Hijo del hombre vino para que le sirvan, sino para servir y para dar su vida en rescate por muchos.” ( Marcos 10:42-45, NVI)  Tomo estas palabras muy en serio-que como seguidores de Cristo y como líderes cristianos, debemos ser diferente.   Así que toma un momento y tomar esta evaluación liderazgo  y reflexionar honestamente sobre qué tipo de líder eres tu y qué tipo de líder que Cristo te ha llamado a ser. Y entonces toma una decisión y has la diferencia serviendo otros solo para la gloria de Dios!

1) ¿Me encuentro a menudo usando mi título o logros para conseguir lo que quiero?

2) ¿Soy un buen oyente o estoy ya pensando en mi respuesta, mientras que la persona todavía está hablando?

3) ¿Recibo la entrada de otros sin ponerse a la defensiva?

4) ¿Con qué frecuencia estas usando las palabras, “yo, mi, o la mía”?

5) Si otra persona recibe el crédito por algo que hice, ¿cuál es mi respuesta?

6) Qué hago sólo lo que se me pide, o hago mas de que debería hacer?

7) Si he cometido un error, yo soy rápido para tomar la responsabilidad o puedo echarle la culpa, o trato de ocultarlo?

8) ¿Las personas se sienten libres de acercarse a mí?

9) ¿Debo usar a la gente a lograr mis metas, o me tomo interés en y el valor de los objetivos de la gente?

10) ¿Cuánto tiempo debo tomar sobre una base semanal para invertir en otra persona, y ayudarlas a crecer como líder?

11) En todo lo que hago, es mi enfoque de la gloria de Dios o de mi propia gloria?
