The cry for most of us can be summed up in this: everyone needs a father and a family. Elijah is one of the most famous prophets recorded in history. But when it was his time to be taken up into heaven, his protege Elisha did not cry out, “My prophet, my prophet!” No, instead he cried out, “My father, my father!” In the New Testament, Paul talked about how many teachers there are in the church, but there are few fathers (I Corinthians 4:15). In Ephesians 3:14-15, Paul went on to say, “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.” And then he continued by praying that each of us would know the width, length, depth and height of Christ’s love for us.
That’s why I love the gospel of Jesus Christ so much because it’s all about Jesus bringing us back to the Father, and then bringing us together with His love as His brothers and sisters. The statistics for single parent families are staggering in the US: 25% white, 42% Hispanic, and 66% African-American. This world is a desert, thirsty for relationship– in need of a father and a family.
Leaders, let’s lead not out of a title or a postion, or just out of a special gifting. Let’s lead out of a heart to father others and point people to their capital “F” Father. And church, let’s be the family the world is looking for, filled with Christ’s love.

Líderes, no dirigimos de un título o una posición, o simplemente de un don especial. Vamos a dirigir de un corazón como un padre y vamos a señalar a las personas a su Padre Dios. Y iglesia, seamos la familia que el mundo está buscando, lleno del amor de Cristo.
